Coronavirus infections in Lagos reach 731, with 43 new cases

“Confirmed Coronavirus infections in Africa’s largest mega city, Lagos has reached 731 with 43 new cases reported on Sunday. Lagos’s total figures of 731 is more than half of the total National Coronavirus infections put at 1,273. On Sunday, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, announced 43 new infections for the State, a rise from the 33 cases it ramp up on Saturday.”

Nigerian Governors impose 14-day interstate lockdown

“The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has unanimously agreed to the implementation of an inter-state lockdown in the country over the next two weeks to mitigate spread of the virus from state to state. A limited lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and the FCT will expire next Monday… In a communique issued at the end of the 6th videoconference, the governors also called for the decentralisation of COVID-19 response as the best chance of nipping the spread of the virus in communities in the country.”

House of Reps defaults in donating to COVID-19 fund (Nigeria)

“Members received their March salaries on Tuesday. This was despite the pledge by House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila that members would contribute March and April salaries into COVID-19 fund. The Daily Trust reported that members would now begin donating their salaries from April. Members reportedly blamed a communication gap between the Speaker and the Clerk of the House for the problem.”
